Colleen McKinnon - Program Coordinator & Bainbridge Island Organizing Committee Lead

Colleen Huck brings passion and purpose to her role as Program Coordinator at Melanesian Women Today, where she focuses on strengthening partnerships across the United States, Canada, and the Pacific. As the Organizing Committee Lead for Bainbridge Island, she also plays a key role in community engagement.

With a professional background in environmental policy and maternal/infant health, Colleen’s work with MWT represents a meaningful convergence of her dedication to education, women’s well-being, and environmental stewardship. In her daily work, she serves as a Service Learning Coordinator at Odyssey Middle School on Bainbridge Island, Washington, where she empowers students to make a difference locally and globally.

Under Colleen’s guidance, students have taken part in impactful service projects from fundraising for MWT girls’ scholarships in the Solomon Islands to organizing invasive species removal initiatives with the Bainbridge Parks Foundation to support book shipments to schools in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. She is inspired by the enthusiasm and empathy students demonstrate as they build connections with communities around the world and share their love of learning across cultures.

Through her thoughtful leadership and commitment to collaborative action, Colleen helps bring MWT’s mission to life in fostering resilience, opportunity, and meaningful exchange.

Melanesian Women Today

is based on the unceded, traditional territory of the xʷsəq̓ʷəb (Suquamish) people. We know that decolonization is more than just a land acknowledgment, and strive to embody this practice in all of the work that we do.
